How to Check if a Company Sponsors H-1B Before You Apply
You can tell whether a company sponsors H-1B before you spend an hour on the application. Here are the signals — and the fastest way to read them.
The signals that actually tell you
- USCIS H-1B approval history. The USCIS H-1B Employer Data Hub lists approved petitions by employer and year. A company with a real, recent count sponsors H-1B, full stop.
- Labor Condition Applications (LCAs). Every H-1B job requires an LCA filed with DOL, which discloses the role and wage. Lots of recent LCAs = active sponsorship.
- E-Verify enrollment. Not proof of H-1B sponsorship on its own, but required for STEM OPT and a good sign the employer hires foreign talent.
- Green-card (PERM) filings. Tells you whether sponsorship goes beyond the temporary visa.
The slow way (doing it by hand)
You can look each employer up in the USCIS Data Hub, cross-check the DOL disclosure files, and search the E-Verify list — for every company, one at a time. It works, but it's tedious, and the legal-entity names in the government data rarely match the brand on the job post.
The fast way
SponsorScan does the lookup and the entity-matching for you. The free Chrome extension adds a sponsorship summary right on LinkedIn and Indeed job posts — H-1B history, E-Verify, cap-exempt status, green-card signal, and your 2027 lottery odds — so you can screen a listing in seconds without leaving the page. Nothing leaves your browser.
- See a role you like? Check the sponsorship summary before you apply.
- No H-1B history and you need sponsorship? Skip it.
- Worried about the lottery? Prefer cap-exempt employers.
- Thinking long-term? Favor employers with green-card history.
Go deeper
Beyond a single company, browse the top sponsors, green-card sponsors, and E-Verify sponsors lists, or open the wage-level map to plan around your 2027 odds.
All figures are historical public filings and may be incomplete; absence of a record isn't proof. Not legal advice.
Frequently asked questions
How can I tell if a company sponsors H-1B?
Check its USCIS H-1B approval history and recent DOL Labor Condition Applications. SponsorScan surfaces both on the job post via a free Chrome extension.
Is there a free way to check H-1B sponsorship?
Yes. The USCIS H-1B Employer Data Hub is public and free, and SponsorScan's free extension reads it (plus E-Verify and green-card data) directly on LinkedIn and Indeed.
Does no H-1B record mean a company won't sponsor?
Not always — records are historical and may be incomplete, and small or new employers may not appear. But a long track record with zero petitions is a meaningful signal.
